Un transfert aux fins de la sauvegarde consiste à déplacer et à relâcher un organisme vivant avec, comme objectif premier, de contribuer à sa sauvegarde: généralement, il s’agit à la fois d’améliorer le statut de conservation local et mondial de l’espèce ciblée et/ou de rétablir les fonctions ou processus naturels des écosystèmes.
