Medical Subject Headings (thesaurus)
Medical Subject Headings 2022

Descripción

Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) is a comprehensive controlled vocabulary for the purpose of indexing journal articles and books in the life sciences; it serves as a thesaurus that facilitates searching. Created and updated by the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM), it is used by the MEDLINE/PubMed article database and by NLM's catalog of book holdings. Originally in English, MeSH has been translated into numerous other languages and allows retrieval of documents from different languages. Inserm (Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale), which has been NLM's French partner since 1969, translated the MeSH in 1986, and has updated the French version every year since then. Inserm makes the bilingual version available to the French-speaking community, which can browse it on this site or obtain it in the form of an XML file. The bilingual version is often used as a translation tool, as well as for indexing and querying French databases.

The present version was obtained by conversion to SKOS of the 2022 XML file distributed by Inserm. Note that terms corresponding to secondary concepts were considered as "hidden labels" and that some data such as history notes were not included in this SKOS version of MeSH.
