Definition(s)
- Communities primarily occupied by African Americans are often referred to as black communities, and in much of the contemporary literature, as inner-city communities or neighborhoods, urban communities, or ghetto communities. The term ghetto was originally a reference to sections within European cities where Jews were required to live; today it is often applied to any slum area where minorities live because of because of social discrimination or economic pressures.
