training and skill acquisition
Definition(s)
- What are skills, and where do people get them? The question of how people learn to do their jobs cuts across many sociological subfields, including the sociologies of work, occupations, and professions; education; labor markets; social psychology; political sociology; and economic sociology. Not surprisingly, the boundary-spanning nature of the concept “skill” has led to no consensus on its conceptualization or operationalization.
